Broadview Public School, Ottawa

Broadview Public School: A Tribute in Image and Verse is a collection of photographs, verse, and prose, chronicling the school and its demolition. The book explores: the life of the school with photos taken by its students; the wonderful and timeless student-painted fence that separated the construction site from the school in use; Albert's revealing and aesthetic photos of the demolition; a brief look at the new school; and historical background on the school.  Many of the photos are accompanied by Albert's verse which seeks to use rhyme and rhythm to offer humour or poignant description to the photos.

The book is available from Albert for $25 and will soon be available directly from the website.

A heartfelt reflection of Broadview Public School, and its surrounding community of Westboro, presented in a poetic, visual format that is a page-turner. Mr. Kaprielian’s book is a great keepsake for any community member who shares a history (spanning a century) with the school both old and new.

Michelle Groulx, Executive Director Westboro Village BIA

Albert Kaprielian has contributed a documentary history of Broadview Public School that will become a must-read, must-have for residents of Ottawa’s near-west neighbourhoods. Compelling photography and recollections bring alive the demolition process, connecting it to the community’s past and future.

School histories are often published, but Albert ‘s book is probably the most visually appealing that I have ever seen.
